When I was a kid, someone told me that the stars were actually pinpricks in the bottom of heaven.

That’s why they brightly sparkle, the explanation went. They are glimpses of heaven’s light.

I’ve since learned about the reality of stars in an astronomy sense, yet the idea of heaven’s light sparkling in the darkness still holds an intensely valuable place in my view of faith and strategy for living.

As I grew from childhood into adulthood, I grew to appreciate how my mom, Phyllis Drummond, was as a star of good light in a world so often filled with darkness.

Always sweet. Always serving. Always caring. Always in church. ALWAYS faithful.

In a world filled with dark moments and dark-hearted people, Mom was a sparkling star.

I thank God that she is now sparkling on the other side of heaven’s veil.

When I look up at the stars, I’ll be reminded of my mom’s life of goodness and of how her shining faith and character in this life is no longer the exception among those around her, but instead adding to the glory of those in Paradise with her.

I was reminded of this certainty while reading Psalm 112 from the May 16th installment of the One-Year Bible.

Even in darkness, light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.” Psalm 112:4

Mom faced a number of very difficult times during her 83-year journey on earth that ended last Thursday. Yet, even in the darkness of night and the depth of pain, she knew that morning was coming.

She kept her faith and, in doing so, transferred it into the lives of her family and friends.

Morning has come for mom. Eternal morning.

All those years of being upright and gracious and compassionate and righteous have borne the fruit of her being in the eternal light.

Dear friends, no matter how dark your days on earth might grow, remember that an eternal morning is coming for you if you take Christ’s hand and live as a shining star of goodness in this world of darkness.

Step outside tonight and look at the sparkling stars. You just might see a twinkling pinprick that belongs to one of your saved loved ones for whom the eternal morning has already come.

As always, I love you
Martin

Thanks, Jennifer. Mom was an amazing woman and continued to show excellent character and love even to her last days. I’m so glad that you have a mom who does and will always do the same.
