Geneologies can be quite interesting sometimes.

Years ago, my mom was active in tracing my dad’s ancestral heritage and even tracked down a retired dentist in St. Louis who had spent loads of time and money — as in travel to Scotland — in order to learn more about the Drummond heritage.

He told her that his research showed an unfortunate turn of events back in the days around 1100 A.D.. The Drummond clan was apparently quite prominent and powerful in a region of Scotland and had to choose between two competing Scottish military lords and their armies.

If the correct choice were made, the Drummonds would have ended up as Scottish royalty, from what I’m told.

Uh… the correct choice wasn’t made and here I am in a rented house in Miami rather than a manor on the verdant hills of Scotland.

Whose team you choose to join makes a big difference in life.

It’s even more important when considering eternity.

There are many named pagan gods in the Bible and countless references to other false gods. Which of them, however, still has teams in action?

Zip.

Yet the God of Adam, the God of Noah, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob — who is still God today to more than a billion Christians — is alive and well.

Lies and those lorded over by them have come and gone in droves over the centuries. Yet the Truth and its Author have remained solid without wavering, providing a certain hope for those who don’t waver in their lives of faith, unashamed lives of proclaiming believers.

Here’s a reminder of that truth offered in today’s One-Year Bible:

“All the nations may walk in the name of their gods; we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.” (Micah 4:5)

Because Jesus chose wisely to remain on God’s team — even when the pressure to change jerseys was SO intense — I have the privileged hope of enjoying a manor in glory.

Please choose the right Lord, my friend.

Your future forever will be much better. And so will your loved ones who follow you.

As always, I love you
Martin
