I wasn’t careful this morning when calling up the online One-Year Bible. Instead of selecting the reading for January 7, I inadvertantly opened the reading for November 7.

The fact that I didn’t catch that my reading was much different than the preceding days doesn’t surprise me, though.

I was up at 4:40 a.m. to take Lori to the airport for an early flight to Alabama where our daughter is set to give birth at any time.

Guess I just wasn’t on top of my mental game, huh?

Despite my goof, I was still blessed by the Word.

Here’s a tidbit of truth that can help us minister to others more effectively:

A person who is full refuses honey, but even bitter food tastes sweet to the hungry.” (Proverbs 27:7)

When an unsaved person or wandering Christian is in those “smooth sailing” seasons of their lives — when he or she isn’t feeling hungry for hope or help — talking to him or her about the need for surrendering to God and being filled with the the things of faith is like offering a slice of pie to a moaning, belly-stuffed man lying on a sofa on late Thanksgiving afternoon..

The last thing he or she is thinking about at that moment is eating more food.

But to the depressed homeless person under an overpass, even the potato peelings and greasy turkey skin would be a treat on that day.

Listen, it is vital that we discern the emotional and spiritual seasons in the lives of people around us. Let’s pray that God show us who in our circles of influence are hungry for hope and help.

If they’ll swallow the bitter food of worldly lies, think of how much better it will be for them when they’re offered the good food of God’s Word.

As always, I love you
Martin
