We’ve all done it.
And we’ll all do it again.
Even the Christians among us.
I’m talking about trying to predict and manage every challenge we face even before we feel the pressure.
I’m talking about stressing before the reason for the stress even shows up.
And I’m talking about trying to do God’s job when we should focus on our task of trusting.
Here’s the key verse for the day. It’s Proverbs 20:24 in the New Living Translation.
“The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?”
We shouldn’t nag God as to whether He knows what He’s doing or not.
And we shouldn’t try to figure out EVERY detail about how God is going to house us, clothe us, feed us, forgive us, use us, protect us or how He’s going to do these same things for the people in our lives.
It is not wise to hold our humble, sacrificial obedience hostage until we see a step-by-step progression as to how God is going to get us an interview, then a job, then a paycheck, then a better car, then a better residence, then better vacations, then a better church, then a more satisfying, peer-approved “faith.”
Our responsibility is to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness as we serve Him by serving others.
If we’re committed to living godly lives and showing godly love to the people around us, God will do the God thing and provide for us just as He does for the birds of the air and the flowers of the field ( Matthew 6:25-34 ).
I have to work on this one as do you.
We have to trust more and serve more readily and stop trying to solve all of our problems as if we didn’t need God.
This is just one of the reasons that Jesus said we have to approach God as little kids who focus on being kids rather than falling into the trap of becoming detail-obsessed, control-freak problem-solvers masquerading as faithful believers.
