I suppose Christopher Columbus could swim but he didn’t reach the New World because of being a strong swimmer.

Instead, he chose to stay on the ship because of the faith it would get him to where he could not get himself.

For Columbus to think he could swim across the ocean would be like thinking you and I could swim to heaven.

Not happening.

Yes, you and I can keep our head above water much of the time in a spiritual sense but sooner or later, we tire or we swim the wrong direction and tire even more quickly or are overwhelmed by storms and down we go.

Our only hope for a safe arrival is to stay on the ship that’s headed the right direction.

That’s why the truths of a passage in today’s One-Year Bible reading are so important.
Trust God, not yourself, my friend. His record of success is a whole lot better than ours.
