The wave of embarrassing moral indiscretions that’s been making the political and national news lately is seemingly growing larger every day.

Political big shots are collapsing right and left because they couldn’t keep their carnal passions restrained and the blatant sin was eventually disclosed.

We continue to be amazed at how powerful people turn themselves into cattle for the slaughter because of untempered lust and vanity.

Of course, it’s not just the famous and wealthy who fall into this trap that Satan has used since before the Great Flood.

All sorts of people are ruined by misdirected sexual passion….even many Christians.

I am profoundly grateful for the example of people who reject this invitation to disaster.

Perhaps you are one of them.

You’ve heard or seen the alluring call to taste forbidden fruit and you’ve rejected it because you knew that the aftertaste and consequences would be devastating to you and to those who cared for you.

Just like it has been to all the big shots who have committed political/social suicide by means of their sexual stupidity.

I feel SO sorry for their family members.

I was reminded of the above when I read Proverbs 16:32 this morning while enjoying by daily Bible-reading time.

“Better a patient person than a warrior, those with self-control than those who take a city.”

Which person would most please God? The hard-drinking, profanity-yelling, harlot-squeezing general whose army kills a city full of terrorists who had been attacking missionaries? Or the quiet missionary whose house, farm and church building are burned by pagan thugs and then he moves to a neighboring country and humbly starts ministering to people there?

Listen, God always cares more for the depth of our character than He does for the width of our reputation.

God cares more about the vertical than He does about the horizontal.

As we remember this in everyday life, we’ll be more likely to live for faith, not for flesh.

As always, I love you
Martin
