Election Day is upon us.

I’m praying that every voter will elect first to live as God would have them to live and then vote in keeping with the principles and precepts of Scripture.

Failure to do so will only continue the spiritual erosion of this nation into greater decadence and, eventually, forfeiture of our “beacon of hope” status in this fallen world.

I’m not yet ready to compare our national collapse of faith with that described in Ezekial 16 — an amazingly graphic and depressing chapter not suitable for children’s eyes — but I am heavy-hearted when biblical values are tossed aside by so many as if garbage.

Truth be told, I struggle mightily with the fact that so many Christians don’t really care about the topics of homosexuality or abortion or corporate greed or perpetual welfare for those unwilling to work at minimum wage, just to name a few.

Rather than jumping on a soap box at church or in the community, though, I choose to pray and to call people to listen to God’s voice as they vote.

He is the One who needs to change hearts, not me.

On Judgment Day, people will answer to God for how they voted, not to me.

Yes, it’s tempting to beat the drum for a candidate with philosophies that I deem as less offensive to God, but I don’t feel called by God to do so.

My primary focus should not be promoting a particular candidate, but instead a perfect Savior.

And here’s a passage to show why I believe this way:

Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely (literally, “forever“) those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

“Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.” (Hebrews 7:23-27)

I hope that your vote in this election reflects a desire to honor God. I hope to a far greater extent, however, that you’ll never stop making Jesus the Priestly King of your life. For He is the only One who focuses not on saving your “pet” public policies for four years, but instead your soul forever.

As always, I love you
Martin
