Morning Devotion: Poison

Gossip is poison.

Please don’t drink it.

Here’s a 3,000-year-old principle to protect us from imbibing in such caustic potions.

“The first to speak in court sounds right—
until the cross-examination begins.” (Proverbs 18:17)

When somebody starts bad-mouthing another, make sure you check the facts and then challenge the gossiper to do the same.

It’s the right thing to do.

Smart people are sometimes so because of a gift of brainpower.

Intelligent people are always so because of the grit of willpower. They know that intelligence is no accident, but instead the fruit of diligent study.

King Solomon — who knew a thing or two about intelligence — put it this way:

“Intelligent people are always ready to learn.
Their ears are open for knowledge.” (Proverbs 18:15)

There’s so much more for us all to learn, so let’s make the intelligent choice today, beginning with time in the Word. Here’s a great place to start each day:

This metaphor of a good life is so attractive… I want to see my life represented by this word picture. Perhaps you do, too.

“They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.”

So how can Psalm 1:3 become true in your life and mine?
By living according to Psalm 1:2.

“…they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.”

That’s what I love about God’s desire for our lives. A blessed life isn’t based on genius but instead genuine humility to learn and live His ways.

Now this is engaging thought….

“Wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook.” (Proverbs 18:4)

When we share life-tested truths with others who are thirsty in their hearts and minds, we become the vessels God intends.

Learn from His Word. Live for His purposes. Love helping people. Become the brook that refreshes others.

My goodness. What a great reminder of why I so adore God…

“The Lord always keeps His promises;
He is gracious in all He does.” (Psalm 145:13)

No matter how many times I fall spiritually, God’s promises of love and forgiveness never fail. I am always forgiven when I humbly repent before Him.

It’s good that He’s God and I’m not. I seriously doubt that I would have forgiven me as much as He has.

You know, it’s important that we show the same mercy toward others that God shows toward us. In fact, the verse above should describe us, shouldn’t it?

“______________ always keeps his/her promises;
He/She is gracious in all he/she does.”

As always, I love you
