I was no science whiz in college, but one thing I do remember from those days was a layman’s definition of the Law of Entropy.

There are, of course, highly technical explanations of the law that governs so much of the work done by chemical and mechanical engineers. But for you and me, it’s much better to sum up a core component of the law in a brief sentence — an array of interacting elements will naturally decay in energy level and/or internal order.

I thought of this idea this morning while reading from the One-Year Bible. Here’s a verse that jumped of the page to me.

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” (Hebrews 3:13)

The writer of Hebrews is reminding us that we’ve got to have that recurring refreshment of faith and love from other believers if we are to avoid the law of spiritual entropy.

Without it, we’re going to decay to a place where spiritual energy has disappeared and our sense of spiritual order erodes into disarray.

Please give encouraging words to a Christian friend today. If possible, give those words to more than one believer.

It’s what they need. It’s what you need. It’s what God commands, not only here but also in Hebrews 10:25 regarding weekly worship.

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

You were saved to serve. Encouraging other believers is like pouring energy into somebody to compensate for the entropy that they, along with every believer, faces.

As always, I love you
Martin
