If not for the grace of God, we’d all face the outcome experienced by the unrepentant of Sodom and Gomorrah.

You know what happened to them.

Fried by the wrath of God because they rejected the righteousness of God.

You also know that Lot and his family escaped that wrath, but not because of boldness or spiritual perfection.

Instead, it was because God’s two angelic messengers sent to rescue them and to destroy the cities chose to impart God’s grace when Lot and his family wavered in faith.

Please read today’s installment of the One-Year Bible and you’ll see what I mean.

The most compelling verse to me in that segment is this one:

When he (Lot) hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them.” (Genesis 19:16)

We all have times when we’ve heard what God wants us to do for His Kingdom’s sake and our own, but for some reason, we hesitated.

Truth be told, we were doubting.

Or we were anguishing over what we’re having to give up in order to obey God.

It’s vital at such times that we think about what we’ll gain by obeying God, not about what we’ll lose.

And even that which we can’t keep should be seen as sacrificial offerings to demonstrate faith.

I’m sure that fleeing Sodom cost Lot a whole lot of money. But because the angels grabbed his hand and the hands of his family, his family was saved.

The next time you’re wavering in obeying the Lord financially or morally or with your availability for volunteer service, please take the Lord’s hand when you hear His voice gently reaching out to you.

He doesn’t want you to perish but instead to enjoy a new life forever.

As always, I love you
Martin
