Everybody who says he or she believes in God surely wants the attentive blessing of God in his or her life.

But not everybody receives it with the same consistency.

It’s not because God is fickle.

Instead, it’s because people too often fail to recognize their disconnect from God’s favor.

I was reminded of such this morning while reading from the One-Year Bible.

Though the LORD is exalted, He looks kindly on the lowly, but He takes notice of the proud from afar.”

These words from Psalm 138:6 remind me of how important it is to be humble.

When I recognize my low estate when compared to the perfect Father in heaven, I realize that all the good that comes my way from Him is because of His mercy and my trusting of Him.

There is not a shred of entitlement due me because I’m “so special” compared to others. The fact is that I’m far from perfect and I know it.

I have no basis for becoming one of the “proud” and I willingly acknowledge that to God on a recurring basis.

Though this awareness might exempt me from the worldly cool crowd, I am way ahead of the game with respect to my relationship with God.

When I am among the lowly, I am in the favor of the Lord.

But when feelings and thoughts of pride seep in, I distance myself from the Lord.

It’s always good to be in the presence of a smiling God and that’s why it’s always good to act humbly and accept “lowly” circumstances without complaint and despair.

The alternative is disastrous sooner or later.

For when trouble comes, our pride-prompted separation from God will come back to haunt us.

Perhaps forever.

Always choose the path of humility at the workplace, at home, at school, at church. God will always be nearby as you do.

As always, I love you
Martin
